I Broke My Number One Movie Rule Today

You all might not remember, but I have movie rules. The number one rule is this: Good people must NOT die. I know you are shaking your head thinking "Silly woman, that includes a lot of dang good movies!". I don't care. I avoid movies where good people die. I avoid them like the plague. I kid you not.

So that said. All week I've been sitting here working on the computer (Yes, peeps, blogging IS work), and off to my right hand side is a copy of A Walk to Remember. Yes, THAT movie. I know you all remember it, and have probably seen it. Not me. It's sitting here because my son's girlfriend left it here accidentally and I didn't want us to forget to give it back to her. I kept looking at the cover. That cute Mandy Moore and the hunky Mr. West:

But I knew there would be sadness, and that the movie broke my number one rule. The thought kept sneaking in "How bad could it really be?" I gave in. I watched it in it's entirety today. I was okay through all the romantic parts. He had a star named after her for Pete's sake, and he was helping her do things on "her list". It was romantic and so cool. But then it came to the last part of the movie. I KNEW I shouldn't have given in. I don't know how you all watch these movies. I wept like a forty-something 5 foot tall baby. I swear I cried so dang hard my vertigo kicked in. A weepy, dizzy women is NOT a pretty sight, let me tell you. Thank goodness I'm alone here today while the kids are in school and my husband is working. I'm hoping I will be recovered before they all return. So, I ask you; how the heck do you do it? What was your favorite sad movie? Not that I'll watch it or anything. I'm JUST curious.

The two that I remember crying like that over were Steel Magnolias and in the movie theater no less with my mom and grandpa who were crying too. The other was a book. It was Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I cried for like 30 minutes after I finished that book. It was crazy.

The Painted Veil, with Naomi Watts and Edward Norton. But still... it was good!

When my husband and I were engaged, we went to see The Way We Were at the theater. I think I was depressed for weeks after that. :)

Also, the movie Exodus. I LOVE that movie but one of my favorite people in it dies at the end. Not good. Even though I had read the book and I knew it would happen, I still cried a lot (and still do) when I see it.

I cry every single time I watch that movie, it never fails. But it is such a happy, sad ending. Now... my favorite sad movie would have to be Mighty Joe Young, I always cried in that one too!

don't apologize for crying! remember, love means never having to say you're sorry... oh, wait-- you probably don't recognize that quote because i am sure you've never seen love story. good, sad movie, but maybe not my very favorite of all. i would have to think about that one.

so?????? how was THE movie?

Well, pets must not die is my movie rule. Way too sad for me.

A little lemonade for you over at She Lives. Maybe that'll put a smile back on your face.

Yeah, I cried. Very few movies do that to me. But that one was like a stab to the heart and a twist. You have to be in the right mood for it.

I had to laugh at your post because I put off watching this movie for the same reason: The Ugly Cry. It doesn't look good on a 36 year old five foot woman either. I'm just sayin'.
