My Thanksgiving Mantra

I wish I could say it was something profound about blessings and gratitude. I really do. Instead I'm chanting:

I am NOT getting sick.
I am NOT getting sick.
I am NOT getting sick.

We have a Thanksgiving tradition around our house. One of us picks up whatever nasty virus is going around and spreads it to the rest of the family so we go down the dominoes. Seriously. I tried to find pictures of Thanksgiving days to share with you and there really wasn't any. Why? Because we were sick. Despite this we always manage to have roast turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and rolls. Nothing fancy. Comfort food at it's best. We always need comforting at Thanksgiving. What we really need is a big bubble to keep the germs away. Far away. Some of you may be thinking "She being melodramatic, it's can't be EVERY Thanksgiving.". You are right. Sometimes it's Christmas. I give you Exhibit A:

That is Emily in Sick Mode. Her hair has ALWAYS does this since she was tiny. I can't figure out how it gets that bad in just one night, but it does. When she's sick, she looks like a wild child from Borneo.

Then there was the year that my oldest was in his FIRST Christmas program and his brother came down with Chicken Pox, so Dad had to take him while I stayed home with Pox Boy, who needed me because he was really miserable and I couldn't make myself leave. Then of course my oldest started itching within a few days.

I actually prefer Thanksgiving viruses vs. Christmas viruses, as I call them. I can reschedule the turkey dinner when necessary. I'm thankful all year for my life and my family, so one day doesn't matter. We laugh now when we look back at all the Thanksgivings we heard "Mooooommm...my tummy feels weird.". My husband and I just look at each other and shrug. Of course, it's Thanksgiving.

~Brenda, who's sipping tea and chanting.

Amen, I know what you are talking about. We started a few weeks ago, so I am hoping that was our Thanksgiving sickness. We were all talking about this at work today. One of the lunch ladies has a kid home and she left feeling not so good today. Oh boy.

Anyway, good luck to you.

Oh, she's the Queen of Bed Hair. I try SO hard not to laugh, but my husband came home from work yesterday and just busted up. She was not a happy camper. BAHAHAHAHA She's feeling better this evening, but still is on the couch.
